India Secures Historic U.S. LPG Supply Deal, Diversifying Energy Imports
India has inked its first-ever structured LPG supply agreement with the United States, committing to import 2.2 million tonnes annually—nearly 10% of its total LPG needs. The deal marks a strategic pivot in New Delhi's energy procurement strategy, leveraging U.S. Gulf Coast producers and adopting Mount Belvieu pricing benchmarks.
Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri framed the agreement as part of broader efforts to rebalance bilateral trade dynamics while securing affordable energy for India's rapidly growing LPG market. State-owned refiners IndianOil, BPCL, and HPCL finalized terms after months of negotiations with American suppliers.
